In a press release from earlier today, Honda announced a new social media company that takes aim at distracted driving. Using the hashtag #PhoneDownEyesUp the automaker hopes to encourage safer driving habits in support of April being Distracted Driving Awareness month.
The new campaign includes six 20-second videos that highlight the idea that, if you can't text and complete an easy task, you can't text and drive. Each video shows individuals attempting to text while participating in everyday activities such as gardening, cooking, exercising, and cutting hair. Videos will be shared on several social media outlets including Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. Furthermore, Honda will release a variety of phone lock screens that can serve as reminders to put the phone away while behind the wheel.
"Honda is deeply committed to enhancing the safety of everyone on the road, so it's imperative that we encourage everyone to stay focused, and remind them about the dangers of texting and other potential distractions while behind the wheel," said Susie Rossick, Assistant Vice President of Marketing at Honda. "This campaign is intended to be both relatable and sharable content that will reach millennials and deliver an easy-to-understand message about the very human limitations we all have when it comes to driving while distracted."
The campaign will run through the end of April. More details can be found at www.honda.us/PhoneDownEyesUp.
